If the engine was more openly made, marketted and sold for funds, THEN the game was made, I'm sure spore would have lived far more to its potential and dark spore wouldn't have been created, or at least been so ♥♥♥♥. Excluding a few exceptions, this normally leads to disaster in the AAA world since SO much needs to go into engine building, hence why things like Unreal engine, source, ext exist. Then we had overhyped marketting that caused an even shorter lifespan by dissapointing everyone, and a post dev cycle that lasted for a bit of dlc and then poof, most everything was abandoned, engine useless, all because EA can't figure out a simple idea.ĭO NOT BUILD A BRAND NEW ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ENGINE AND ONLY INTEND ONE GAME/FRANCHISE TO RUN ON IT. This took a toll on spore of course who couldn't even get the best team going since the engine was lumped into spore's production thus half the team was focused on the engine, and the other half on the game that ran on it. do you realize how hard if at all possible it is to get money back from making an engine on a SINGLE GAME? EA made a huge mistake by basically building a single game on a 90% custom engine. Instead of proper time usage and funding, most of it went into the engine. The reason Spore bombed was because EA had to get it out to appease money hungry investors who looked short term. EA was going down the tube long before anyone realized, they just hid it really well, sometime around 2011-2012 it all just came out and EA stopped caring about good face value in ANY form. I know this is really late to the RIP maxis party but i just wanted to say this eventually, even if it was late, and/or an obvious statement to some.ĭidn't help with the horrid marketting, time constraints, ext. Until EA changes (if they ever do before they ruin themselves) and shows that they can handle companies, games, and licences responsibly as they once did, this opinion of mine shall stand. I'd rather this title be left untainted with no sequel than a sequel only to muddy the name spore. Should it be under direct development the game will likely be riddled with micro transactions, chopped up DLC, lack of care or creativity and an overall mess of bugs. If left to EA alone, spore 2 might be outsourced at best and at worst be under one of its next victim dev teams in its long list of company absorbings (see every damn good company they have taken over, ♥♥♥♥ on their titles, and spat back out when the money was sucked dry). I am afraid enough for Battlefront 3 because EA has been milking and destroying their old titles. ![]() Recently Maxis was closed due to EA, and I know this news is late but i just want to say I hope I never see spore 2 without maxis running it because i do not trust (nor should anyone) EA with titles anymore. ![]() Maxis was the driving force of spore, the game that suffered overhype from a man who shall remain anonymous (though many know exactly who) and still became a classic. So I know many people will either rage at this title, question this title, but hopefully understand or will understand this title soon.
